"Three Smart Girls Grow Up" is a 1939 musical film and sequel to the film "Three Smart Girls." The film follows the three sisters, Joan (Nan Grey), Kay (Barbara Read), and Penny (Deanna Durbin), who are helping their father, successful businessman Judge James Craig (Charles Winninger), save his business from a hostile takeover. Along the way, they also attempt to navigate their own romantic relationships.

Penny, the youngest of the three sisters, is at the center of the film. She falls in love with a handsome young composer, Harry Loren (Robert Cummings), who is struggling to make a name for himself in the music industry. Penny and Harry's relationship is threatened by the interference of Harry's former lover, Pat (Helen Parrish), who is determined to win him back.
