Three Monkeys is a 2008 Turkish drama film written and directed by Nuri Bilge Ceylan. The movie follows the story of a family whose patriarch, Servet, is a wealthy politician running for re-election. Servet gets into a car accident and kills someone while driving under the influence. In order to avoid facing the consequences of his actions, he convinces his driver Eyüp to take the blame and go to jail in his place.
Eyüp agrees to do so in exchange for a large sum of money, which he believes will help his family while he serves his sentence. However, once Eyüp goes to prison, Servet begins having an affair with Eyüp's wife, Hacer. Their relationship becomes increasingly complicated as Hacer struggles to keep up the appearance of a happy family while concealing their affair from her son.
As the lies and deceit continue to pile up, the family dynamic becomes more strained and fractured. Eyüp begins to suspect that something is amiss with Hacer and Servet, while their son Ismail uncovers the truth about his father's mistake and struggles to reconcile his love for his family with his desire to seek justice.
The film explores themes of loyalty, guilt, and the lengths that people will go to protect themselves and their loved ones. It was well-received critically, winning the Best Director award at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival.
