Three Ages is a silent comedy film released in 1923 and directed by Buster Keaton and Eddie Cline. The movie consists of three acts, each taking place in a different historical period and following the same basic plot of a man (played by Keaton) trying to win the affection of a woman (played by Margaret Leahy) while facing competition from a villain (played by Wallace Beery).
The first act, set in the Stone Age, features Keaton and Beery as cavemen vying for the affections of a cavewoman. They use various means to impress her, including hunting and gathering, attempting to tame a dinosaur, and playing a game of golf with rocks as the balls.
The second act takes place in ancient Rome, where Keaton and Beery compete in a chariot race to win the love of a princess. The race doesn't go exactly as planned, and chaos ensues.
The third and final act is set in contemporary times (1920s) and sees Keaton as a hapless young man trying to impress a woman in an increasingly modern and technologically advanced world. He tries to show off his car, but the vehicle is so fragile that it falls apart at the slightest touch, leading to various mishaps and comedic situations.
Throughout the film, Keaton's character remains determined and resourceful in his attempts to win the woman's heart, despite the various obstacles thrown in his path. The film highlights the recurring themes of courtship and competition throughout history, as well as highlighting the ways in which technology and societal norms can shape romance and relationships.
