This Christmas is a heartwarming and humorous family drama that follows the Whitfield family, who have not been all together in four years, as they reunite for Christmas. The matriarch, Ma'Dere Whitfield (played by Loretta Devine), prepares for the arrival of all her children, including Quentin (Idris Elba), a musician who is dodging the paparazzi and his estranged wife; Lisa (Regina King), a successful businesswoman still secretly in love with an old flame; Kelli (Sharon Leal), a hardworking nurse hiding a devastating secret from her family; Claude (Columbus Short), a Marine fighting in Iraq who has been dishonorably discharged; and Melanie (Lauren London), the youngest daughter who is still trying to find her way in the world.
As the family comes together under one roof, tensions rise and secrets are uncovered. Ma'Dere's boyfriend, Joe (Delroy Lindo), is revealed to be running a shady business, Quentin's ex-wife shows up unexpectedly, and Kelli's medical condition threatens to derail the entire reunion. Despite all the drama, the Whitfields try to keep the holiday spirit alive and find solace and support in each other.
Over the course of the week leading up to Christmas, the siblings' relationships are tested and mended as they confront their past grievances and seek forgiveness. The movie is filled with heartfelt moments, festive music, and plenty of laughs as the Whitfield family learns the true meaning of family and the importance of forgiveness and togetherness during the holiday season.
