Things We Lost in the Fire is a 2007 drama film starring Halle Berry as Audrey Burke, a woman who has recently lost her husband, Brian (David Duchovny), to a senseless act of violence. Struggling with her grief and the challenge of raising her two young children alone, Audrey reaches out to her late husband's troubled best friend, Jerry Sunborne (Benicio Del Toro).

Jerry is a heroin addict who has been estranged from Brian and Audrey for several years, and his arrival stirs up mixed emotions in Audrey. However, as Jerry begins to sober up and turn his life around, Audrey finds herself drawn to him as a source of comfort and support.

As Jerry becomes more involved with the family, he helps Audrey's son Harper (Alexis Llewellyn) cope with his own grief, and encourages Audrey's daughter Dory (Micah Berry) to pursue her dreams of playing piano. At the same time, Jerry struggles to resist the temptations of his old lifestyle and avoid falling back into addiction.

As the family struggles to come to terms with their loss and find a way forward, they begin to see Jerry in a new light and appreciate the positive changes he has brought into their lives. However, the road ahead is not always smooth, and both Audrey and Jerry must confront their own demons and make difficult choices in order to heal and move on.

Overall, Things We Lost in the Fire is a powerful and moving exploration of grief, addiction, and the power of human connection to help us overcome our darkest moments. With strong performances from Berry and Del Toro, as well as a heartfelt script and sensitive direction from Danish filmmaker Susanne Bier, the film is a must-see for anyone who has ever struggled with loss or faced the challenges of recovery.
