There Goes My Baby follows a group of high school seniors from a Los Angeles school as they navigate the summer of 1965, right before the outbreak of the Watts Riots.

Walter (Dermot Mulroney) is the class clown who just wants to have fun, but is faced with the reality of becoming a father. Stick (Rick Schroder) is a shy and reserved student who falls in love with a rich girl named Rose (Kelli Williams) who is also the daughter of a racist politician. Judy (Lara Flynn Boyle) is a popular girl who realizes her life is headed in the wrong direction and wants to make a change before it's too late. And Kenny (Noah Wyle) is a smart kid who is pressured by his parents to pursue a future in medicine, despite his passion for music.

As the summer progresses, the group faces challenges and obstacles that make them question their choices and future aspirations. Walter must decide whether to accept his impending fatherhood and take responsibility or continue his carefree lifestyle. Stick and Rose must overcome obstacles in their relationship to be together. Judy faces criticism and judgement from her friends for wanting to make a change. And Kenny must decide whether to follow his passion for music or pursue a career in medicine like his parents want.

The film also touches on themes of racial tension, social class, and the changing cultural landscape of the 1960s. The Watts Riots provide a backdrop to the story, adding a sense of urgency and tension to the characters' struggles. Ultimately, There Goes My Baby is a coming-of-age story that explores the complexities of growing up and making difficult choices.
