The main character of the film is Annabelle Wilson, a woman who lost her husband, Fred, to cancer about a year prior to the story's start. On the anniversary of his death, she decides to take her husband's ashes on a trip around the world to the places they dreamed about. She discovers new places to visit through the spy novels Fred loved and their shared love for classic movies.
When she arrives in Scotland, she stays at a beautiful estate called Craigievar Castle that they both loved watching in the classic movie "The Ghost Goes West." The innkeeper there, Lord Howard Awd, is a kind and caring man who offers to be her guide through Scotland.
Along the way, they have a few misunderstandings, but they slowly begin to fall for each other. Annabelle, however, is hesitant to start a new relationship since she is still mourning Fred's death.
She eventually opens up to Howard and reveals that she is planning to scatter Fred's ashes at a special lookout point in the Himalayas. Howard decides to accompany Annabelle on her journey and they embark on a beautiful adventure together.
Throughout their journey, Annabelle and Howard visit various locations that Fred had always dreamed about. They witness the beauty of the Scottish Highlands, watch the sunrise at the Taj Mahal, and trek through the Himalayas to reach the lookout where she scatters Fred's ashes.
In the end, Annabelle realizes that she has found love again with Howard, and the two plan to stay in contact and see each other again one day. The movie ends with Annabelle feeling grateful for the journey she's taken and the love she's found along the way.
