The Youth Governor follows a group of 4,000 teenagers who participate in a unique program run by their local YMCA. The program allows them to run a mock government, complete with elections, legislators, lobbyists, and political party bosses.
The teenagers are split into groups and given specific roles to play. Some become members of the legislative branch, proposing and voting on laws, while others become members of the executive branch, enforcing those laws. There are also students who become lobbyists, working to sway their classmates to support specific policies and ideas. Additionally, some students are designated as political party bosses, strategizing and coordinating their party's efforts to achieve their goals.
Throughout the program, the teenagers learn about the political process, gain leadership skills, and develop a deeper understanding of how government works. They also come to appreciate the power of their voices and their ability to make a difference in their communities.
