The story of the movie revolves around the relationship between Mulder and Scully, which has deteriorated since their departure from the FBI. They are brought back together to investigate the case, although Scully is skeptical of the priest’s abilities and Mulder’s desire to believe in the paranormal.
As they delve deeper into the investigation, they uncover a disturbing plot involving a group of Russian scientists who are conducting illegal experiments on human subjects. The group is led by a man named Dr. Josephs who believes that he can harness psychic abilities to perform remote viewing, and is utilizing the kidnapped agents to carry out his experiments.
Mulder and Scully race against time to find the missing agents and stop the group before they can carry out their sinister plans. Along the way, they face personal and professional challenges that test the limits of their relationship and their beliefs.
Ultimately, Mulder and Scully are able to penetrate the group and rescue the agents, including Banan, who they find alive in a remote location. The film ends on an ambiguous note, with Mulder and Scully heading off into the wilderness together, leaving the door open for future X-Files adventures.
