The Wounded Man

Romance,Crime,Drama  France

The Wounded Man, also known as L'homme blessé, is a French drama film directed by Patrice Chéreau. Released in 1983, the movie stars Jean-Hugues Anglade as Henri, the central character. The film is notable for its frank portrayal of homosexuality and the exploration of desire and obsession.

Henri is a loner who lives with his mother in a middle-class neighborhood in Paris. He spends his days working in a factory and his nights window-shopping in the red light district, where he is fascinated by the male hustlers. One night, he meets a young street hustler named Johnny (played by Vittorio Mezzogiorno), and they begin a turbulent relationship.

Henri is deeply conflicted about his desire for Johnny, and he struggles to reconcile his attraction with his conservative upbringing and his fear of rejection. He becomes increasingly obsessed with Johnny, stalking him and spying on him. As his lust turns to desperation, Henri is consumed by a violent and tragic rage.

The Wounded Man is a gritty and uncompromising portrayal of the darker side of desire, and it features strong performances from Anglade and Mezzogiorno. The film was controversial at the time of its release for its explicit sexuality and violence, but it has since become a cult classic of French cinema.
