The World Is Not Enough is the nineteenth James Bond film, released in 1999. It stars Pierce Brosnan as Bond, alongside Sophie Marceau and Robert Carlyle as the main villains.
The story revolves around Bond being assigned to protect Elektra King, the daughter of an oil tycoon who was previously kidnapped by terrorist Renard (played by Carlyle), who now seems to be targeting her again. Bond sets out to find out why Renard is after Elektra and to stop him from achieving his ultimate goal, which is to detonate a nuclear bomb in Istanbul that would contaminate the city with radiation and allow him to control the world's oil supply.
As Bond races against time to stop Renard, he encounters a number of challenges, including multiple assassination attempts, a bomb-laden hot air balloon, a high-speed boat chase on the River Thames, and a tense underwater showdown in a submarine.
Throughout the film, Bond must also contend with the manipulative Elektra, who may not be as innocent as she seems, and his own feelings for her. He also receives assistance from his usual allies, including Q (played by Desmond Llewelyn), M (played by Judi Dench), and CIA agent Jack Wade (played by Joe Don Baker).
The World Is Not Enough is known for its thrilling action sequences, including a pre-credits sequence set in Bilbao, Spain, during which Bond chases a villain across the city's rooftops. It also features a well-regarded theme song by Garbage. Largely well-received by critics, the film grossed over $360 million at the worldwide box office.
