The Woman in Black is a horror movie released in 2012 and directed by James Watkins. It is based on the novel of the same name by Susan Hill.

Arthur Kipps, the protagonist, is played by Daniel Radcliffe. The movie begins with Kipps losing his wife in childbirth, leaving him alone to raise their son. This personal tragedy has left Kipps emotionally vulnerable and struggling to cope.

Kipps is sent to the remote village of Crythin Gifford to sort out the papers of a deceased client, Mrs. Drablows. As he arrives in the village, Kipps is met with hostility and coldness from the locals. He is warned not to go to Eel Marsh House, the isolated residence of Mrs. Drablows, as it is believed to be cursed.

Despite the warnings, Kipps ventures to the house and begins to uncover tragic secrets about Mrs. Drablows and the mysterious woman dressed in black that he keeps seeing. The woman in black is believed to be responsible for the deaths of several children in the village.

As Kipps delves deeper into the mystery surrounding the woman in black, he is haunted by her presence and experiences supernatural events. He finally discovers that the woman in black is the vengeful ghost of Mrs. Drablows' sister, who died tragically after giving birth to a child out of wedlock. The child was taken away and the sister was forced to live in isolation until her death.

Kipps is caught in a race against time to lay the woman in black's vengeful spirit to rest before she claims the life of his own son. The movie ends with Kipps successfully laying her spirit to rest, but at great personal cost to himself.
