The Woman is a horror thriller film directed by Lucky McKee and released in 2011. The movie revolves around a successful lawyer named Chris Cleek (Sean Bridgers) who discovers a feral woman (Pollyanna McIntosh) living in the woods. With the help of his family, Chris attempts to capture and domesticate the woman to prove his own power and masculinity to his wife and children. However, his actions soon spiral out of control as he delves into sadistic behavior and abuses the woman physically and mentally.
As the movie unfolds, it becomes clear that Chris' family is not as innocent as they seem. His wife, Belle (Angela Bettis), is a battered spouse who stays with him for the sake of her children, while his son, Brian (Zach Rand), is involved in sadomasochism. Chris' daughter, Peggy (Lauren Ashley Carter), is the only family member who initially resists his plan to "civilize" the woman and becomes increasingly disturbed by her father's cruelty towards her.
The Woman provides a commentary on the patriarchal power dynamics of society and the dangers of trying to tamper with nature. The film was met with controversy due to its graphic violence and disturbing themes but received critical acclaim for its raw and unflinching portrayal of misogyny and domestic abuse.
