Dorothy is a young girl living on a farm in Kansas with her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry. A tornado hits their farm, and she is hit on the head, rendering her unconscious. When she wakes up, she finds herself in a strange and magical land called Oz. There, she meets a good witch named Glinda who tells her that the only way she can return home is to go to the Emerald City and see the Wizard of Oz.

As Dorothy embarks on her journey to the Emerald City, she meets a scarecrow who wishes for a brain, a tin man who wishes for a heart, and a cowardly lion who wishes for courage. Together, they face many dangers, including the Wicked Witch of the West who tries to stop them from reaching their destination. Along the way, they encounter other memorable characters, such as the Munchkins, flying monkeys, and the Wizard himself.

When they finally reach the Emerald City and meet the Wizard, they realize that he is not all-powerful and cannot grant their wishes. With Glinda's help, Dorothy eventually learns that she has the power to go back home all along. She clicks her heels together three times and repeats the phrase, "There's no place like home." She wakes up in her bed back in Kansas, reunited with her family and grateful for her adventure in Oz.
