Meanwhile, Cynthia Tamerline, a wealthy and glamorous woman, arrives in town to purchase Mark's newspaper and turn it into a corporate chain. After meeting Mark and Samantha, Cynthia starts to question her ruthless business tactics and begins to see the value in the small town and its locals.
Intrigued by Samantha's talk of the wishing well, Cynthia visits it herself and casts her wish, which leads to her waking up in an alternate universe where she's living a completely different life. In this reality, she's a wealthy and successful businesswoman but is deeply unhappy and alone.
As Cynthia tries to navigate this new world, she begins to realize the true meaning of happiness and the importance of family and community. Eventually, she is returned to the original universe and decides to use her wealth and resources to help Mark keep his newspaper running and maintain the town's unique identity.
