The Wild Goose Lake is a 2019 Chinese action crime film directed by Diao Yinan. It follows the story of a gangster named Zhou Zenong (played by Hu Ge), who is on the run from both the police and rival gangs after accidentally killing a police officer.
While hiding out in the titular Wild Goose Lake, a notorious hangout for criminals, Zhou Zenong meets a young woman named Liu Aiai (played by Gwei Lun Mei). Aiai is a sex worker who is trying to raise enough money to leave the city and start a new life. Despite their differences, Zhou Zenong and Aiai find themselves drawn to each other and form a bond.
As Zhou Zenong's situation becomes more desperate, he makes a decision to turn himself in to the police in exchange for a pardon and protection for his family. However, things do not go as planned and he ends up in a precarious situation.
The Wild Goose Lake is praised for its stylish cinematography, intense action sequences, and strong performances by the lead actors. It premiered at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival and has won numerous awards at international film festivals.
