The Wilby Conspiracy is a thriller film released in 1975 and directed by Ralph Nelson. The movie stars Sidney Poitier as Shack Twala, a black nationalist leader in South Africa who seeks to overthrow the apartheid regime. The cast also includes Michael Caine as Jim Keogh, a white British engineer who becomes involved with Shack's cause, and Nicol Williamson as Major Horn, a ruthless government agent tasked with tracking down Shack and his allies.

The film takes place in the late 1960s, a time of intense political unrest in South Africa. Shack has spent a decade in prison for his anti-government activities and is finally released due to his failing health. However, as he makes his way to Cape Town, he realizes that his troubles are far from over. Shack is harassed by the police at every turn and soon realizes that he is being followed by Major Horn, who is determined to stop him from achieving his goals.

Shack enlists the help of his lawyer, Rina Van Niekirk (played by Prunella Gee), and Jim Keogh, a wealthy British businessman who is sympathetic to Shack's cause. Together, they embark on a dangerous journey across the country, braving the harsh terrain and evading Major Horn's grasp.

As they travel, Shack reveals that he had entrusted a cache of diamonds to his dentist before his arrest, hoping that the money would fund his revolution. Their journey becomes a race against time as they try to retrieve the diamonds before Major Horn catches up with them. Along the way, they encounter various obstacles, including a crocodile-infested river and a group of hostile farmers.

The Wilby Conspiracy is a taut and suspenseful film that combines political intrigue with high-stakes action. It explores the themes of racial inequality, colonialism, and the struggle for independence that were prevalent in South Africa at the time. The film was well-received critically and commercially upon its release and is still regarded as a classic of the genre.
