The Wicker Tree follows the story of two young Christians, Beth and Steve, who travel from Texas to Scotland to spread the word of Jesus by going door-to-door. They arrive in the small village of Tressock, where they are initially met with hostility and ridicule. However, they soon discover that the villagers are followers of a pagan religion rooted in the worship of nature and fertility.
Despite the warnings of their new friend, Lolly, Beth and Steve become caught up in the excitement and enthusiasm of the villagers, and they agree to play the lead roles in the local May Day celebration. Unbeknownst to the couple, this involves sacrificing them in the Wicker Man, a pagan ritual designed to ensure a bountiful harvest.
As the May Day celebration approaches, Beth and Steve begin to realize the true nature of the village and its inhabitants. Determined to escape, they are pursued by the villagers and their sinister leader, Sir Lachlan Morrison. In a final, dramatic showdown, the couple must fight for their lives and their faith as they confront the terrifying reality of the pagan religion they have stumbled into.
The Wicker Tree is a dark and atmospheric horror film that explores themes of religion, faith, and the clash of cultures. It is a reimagining of the classic 1973 film The Wicker Man, also directed by Robin Hardy, and features many references and nods to the original movie.
