The Whale is a drama film directed by Darren Aronofsky, based on the play of the same name by Samuel D. Hunter. The movie stars Brendan Fraser as Charlie, an English teacher who has gained a tremendous amount of weight, making him almost immobile. He now lives alone in a small, cluttered apartment, surrounded by his books and writing.
Charlie's life takes a turn when he reaches out to his teenage daughter, Ellie, who he hasn't spoken to in years. Ellie is initially reluctant to reconnect with him due to his past behavior, but Charlie convinces her to visit him.
