In The Wedding Year, Mara Hickey (played by Sarah Hyland) is a commitment-phobic 27-year-old who has never been in a serious relationship. However, when she meets her boyfriend, Jake (played by Tyler James Williams), she finds herself falling in love and questioning her aversion to commitment.
Things become complicated when they attend seven weddings in a single year, all with different themes and eccentric guests. Mara is forced to confront her fears of commitment as she witnesses her friends and family taking the plunge into marriage.
Throughout the film, Mara and Jake navigate their relationship while dealing with the pressures of attending so many weddings and the different dynamics at each event. Along the way, Mara learns about love, commitment, and what it means to make a life-long partnership work.
The movie also stars Jenna Dewan, Anna Camp, and Keith David, and is directed by Robert Luketic. It was released in 2019 and is rated R for language and some sexual content.
