Robbie, played by Adam Sandler, is a talented musician who performs at wedding receptions, but dreams of becoming a famous rock star. He is engaged to his long-term girlfriend, Linda, but on the day of their wedding, Linda reveals that she cannot go through with the marriage and leaves him at the altar. Heartbroken and disillusioned, Robbie falls into a deep depression and begins to question his life choices.

Meanwhile, Julia (Drew Barrymore) is a waitress at a local catering company who is engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Glenn.
