The Weather Man is a 2005 American drama film directed by Gore Verbinski and written by Steve Conrad. The film stars Nicolas Cage as David Spritz, a Chicago weatherman who is going through a midlife crisis and a series of personal and professional setbacks.

David is separated from his wife Noreen (Hope Davis) and is trying to maintain a relationship with his teenage son Mike (Nicholas Hoult) and daughter Shelly (Gemmenne de la Pena). His father Robert (Michael Caine) is a Pulitzer Prize-winning author who is disappointed in David's career and personal choices.

As David struggles to reconnect with his family, he is offered an opportunity to take a job as the weatherman for a national morning show in New York City. But as he prepares for his job interview, he is repeatedly humiliated by random strangers who throw fast food at him, vandalize his car, and call him a "jerk-off weatherman."

As he struggles to make sense of his life, David becomes obsessed with the idea of winning a prestigious archery competition and begins practicing every day. He also starts dating a quirky woman named Noreen (Samantha Morton), who works at the local donut shop.

Despite his personal struggles, David is offered the job in New York City and must choose between pursuing professional success and reconnecting with his family. In the end, he decides to stay in Chicago and try to repair his relationships with his wife and children.

The Weather Man received mixed reviews from critics and was a box office disappointment, grossing just $19 million worldwide against a budget of $22 million. However, Cage's performance was praised, and the film has since gained a cult following.
