The film follows Gunner (Lonnie Chavis), a young boy with a vivid imagination living in a small town in Oregon. Gunner convinces his rebellious friend Jo (Amiah Miller) to help him find the Water Man, hoping that he can help save his mother's life.
As Gunner and Jo venture into the forest, they encounter various obstacles and dangers, including supernatural creatures, harsh terrain, and Amos, who is determined to find them and bring them back home. Along the way, Gunner learns valuable lessons about friendship, bravery, and the power of belief.
