The Warriors is a 1979 cult classic film directed by Walter Hill and based on a novel of the same name by Sol Yurick. The movie is set in a dystopian New York City where gangs control the streets and violence is a way of life. The central gang of the film is the Warriors, a Coney Island gang who wear leather vests with their name and logo emblazoned on the back.

The plot revolves around Cyrus, the leader of the most powerful gang in the city called the Gramercy Riffs, who calls a meeting of all the gangs in the city to propose a truce and unite to take over the city. The meeting is being held in the Bronx, and the Warriors, as well as other gangs, arrive by subway. After Cyrus delivers a rousing speech, he is suddenly shot and killed by Luther, the leader of a rival gang called the Rogues. The Warriors witness the murder but are unable to stop Luther from framing them for the crime.

The rest of the movie follows the Warriors' journey back to Coney Island as they try to avoid being caught by the police and other gangs who are hunting them down for the supposed murder of Cyrus. Along the way, they meet various colorful characters, such as a gang of roller-skating female assassins, a group of baseball bat-wielding gangsters, and a deranged cop who is hot on their trail.

The film is known for its stylized portrayal of gang culture in the late 1970s and its iconic characters, such as the charismatic leader of the Warriors, Swan, and the tough-talking Mercy. The movie also features a memorable soundtrack that includes songs by Joe Walsh, Steely Dan, and Eric Clapton.

Although the movie was not initially a commercial success, it has since gained a cult following and has inspired numerous spin-offs and adaptations, including a video game and a comic book series.
