The Virgin Suicides is a drama film directed by Sofia Coppola, based on the novel of the same name by Jeffrey Eugenides. Set in the 1970s in a suburban neighborhood in Michigan, the story follows the lives of the Lisbon sisters, five beautiful and enigmatic girls who capture the attention of the local boys.

Despite their strict upbringing by their overprotective and repressive parents, the Lisbon sisters become the object of the boys' fascination. The boys, who are narrating the story years later, describe the girls as mysterious, melancholy and ethereal, and are drawn to their beauty and unapproachable nature.

As the boys become more and more obsessed with the Lisbon sisters, they begin to spy on them and obsessively keep track of their every move. However, after the youngest sister attempts to commit suicide, the parents become even more overprotective, and the girls are confined to their home and forbidden from interacting with anyone outside of the family.

Over the course of the film, the boys watch as the Lisbon sisters become increasingly isolated and depressed. As the tension builds, the boys struggle with their feelings of desire, guilt, and helplessness, culminating in a tragic and shocking finale.

The Virgin Suicides is a visually stunning film, with its dreamlike cinematography and haunting soundtrack capturing the melancholic mood of the story. It explores themes of adolescent obsession, repression, and the effects of overprotectiveness, and is a powerful and thought-provoking exploration of the female experience.
