The Vault of Horror is a 1973 horror anthology film that serves as a sequel to the popular Tales from the Crypt movie from the previous year. The movie features five strangers who find themselves trapped in a basement vault after entering an abandoned building. While waiting to be rescued, they begin sharing their nightmares with each other.
The first story revolves around a woman named Joanne Clayton who becomes embroiled in an insurance scam involving her husband, his partner, and a vampire. In the second story, a man named Arthur Critchit tells his tale of dismemberment at the hands of his vengeful sister and brother-in-law. The third story involves an East Indian mystic who exacts revenge on those who have wronged him.
In the fourth story, a man named Sebastian, who is an artist, finds success by painting vivid depictions of murder scenes. However, his success comes with a deadly price as he unknowingly kills those around him by painting their deaths. In the final story, a vengeful wife hires a hitman to kill her husband, but things take a turn when the husband and hitman team up to take down the scheming wife.
The Vault of Horror is known for its dark humor, gruesome imagery, and eerie atmosphere. It features an ensemble cast of British actors, including Denholm Elliott, Tom Baker, and Terry-Thomas.
