The Unholy

Horror  United States of America

The Unholy is a horror movie released in 2021 directed by Evan Spiliotopoulos. The film is based on James Herbert's novel The Shrine. The story revolves around Alice, a young disable girl who is living in a small town. Alice has lost her hearing and speech ability in an accident, but after a mysterious visit by a spirit that claims to be the Virgin Mary, her life takes a dramatic turn. She can hear, speak, and even perform miracles.

Alice's supposed powers attract the attention of both the locals and the media. A journalist named Gerry, who had been disgraced, sees this as an opportunity to revive his career writes a story about the young girl. However, as he delves deeper, he discovers that there is more to Alice's powers than what meets the eye. The more he investigates, the more lethal and terrifying events start to occur.

As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that Alice's powers have a dark source that is much more sinister than a visitation from the Virgin Mary. Despite opposition from the church and locals, the journalist and a small group of people must fight against evil forces to stop Alice's powers from causing more harm.

The Unholy features Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Gerry, the journalist, and Cricket Brown as Alice. The movie combines suspense, horror, and religious elements to deliver a chilling story. It leaves the audience questioning the source of Alice's apparent powers and the consequences of meddling with dark forces.
