After Edward leaves Bella in the first movie, she falls into a deep depression. She becomes close friends with Jacob Black, who helps her heal. However, Jacob is harboring a secret of his own: he is a werewolf and his pack is in conflict with a group of vampires, including Edward's family. Bella becomes entangled in this conflict when she seeks adrenaline rushes to feel close to Edward and jumps off a cliff, only to be saved by Jacob.
As Bella tries to navigate her feelings for both Edward and Jacob, she discovers that the vampire who originally turned Edward and the rest of his family, Victoria, is seeking revenge on them for killing her mate. Bella becomes the target of Victoria's revenge and, despite Jacob's protestations, seeks out the help of the Cullen family to protect her.
Meanwhile, Edward believes Bella has died and travels to Italy to seek death-by-vampire-leadership. Bella and Alice, one of the Cullen family, race to Italy to stop him. In the end, Edward and Bella reconcile, but she is forced to choose between becoming a vampire and staying human. She chooses to stay human for the time being, but promises Edward she will become a vampire eventually.
The movie ends with Victoria still on the loose, setting up the conflict for the next movie in the series.
