The Twilight of the Golds is a 1996 drama film based on a play of the same name by Jonathan Tolins. The story revolves around the Gold family, a well-to-do Jewish family living in New York City. Suzanne Gold Stein (Jennifer Beals) is the daughter of Phyllis (Brenda Fricker) and Walter (Garry Marshall) Gold. She is married to Rob Stein (Jon Tenney) and is pregnant with their first child. Suzanne undergoes a prenatal genetic test that reveals that her unborn son has a high likelihood of being gay. Suzanne must decide whether to keep the baby or terminate the pregnancy.

Suzanne confides in her brother David (Brendan Fraser), who is gay, about the test results. David is supportive of his sister's decision whatever it may be. However, Suzanne's mother Phyllis objects to Suzanne terminating the pregnancy and starts to question her daughter's motives. Walter, Suzanne's father, tries to keep the family together and prevent any conflict from escalating.

As tensions rise within the family, Suzanne's husband Rob struggles to understand his wife's decision and fears the effects it will have on their marriage. Meanwhile, Suzanne seeks guidance from her therapist (Faye Dunaway) and befriends her son's gay friend (Sean O'Bryan) as she tries to come to terms with her decision.

The Twilight of the Golds explores themes of prejudice, acceptance, and family dynamics. The film received mixed reviews upon its release but was praised for its performances from the ensemble cast.
