The Truth About Charlie follows the story of Regina Lambert (played by Thandie Newton) who returns to Paris from a vacation to find that her husband has been murdered. As she tries to unravel the mystery of his death, more secrets are revealed about her husband's true identity and the dangerous people he was involved with.
Along the way, Regina meets a mysterious man named Joshua Peters (played by Mark Wahlberg) who may or may not be trustworthy. As they work together to uncover the truth, they discover a conspiracy that involves stolen money, espionage, and a deadly criminal network.
The film was directed by Jonathan Demme and also features performances by Tim Robbins, Lisa Gay Hamilton, and Christine Boisson. Despite its star-studded cast and nods to classic French cinema, the film was a critical and commercial disappointment upon its release.
