The Trouble with Harry Movie Synopsis

Whispers of Guilt Haunt Innocent Souls

Comedy,Mystery  United States of America

The Trouble with Harry is a 1955 comedy-drama film directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Edmund Gwenn, John Forsythe, Shirley MacLaine, and Mildred Natwick. The movie is set in a small New England town and revolves around the discovery of a dead body in the woods. However, instead of the town's residents being shocked or scared, they are more interested in discovering who caused the death of the man, named Harry.

The movie follows a series of comical events as various residents claim responsibility for Harry's death, each with their own story about how it happened. Captain Albert Wiles (played by Gwenn) claims to have accidentally shot Harry while hunting, Jennifer Rogers (played by MacLaine) believes she hit Harry with a stick while defending herself from his advances, and Sam Marlowe (played by Forsythe) believes he killed Harry with a rock.

As the plot unfolds, it becomes clear that Harry's death was not as straightforward as it seemed, and as a result, the characters find themselves in increasingly hilarious and absurd situations as they try to conceal their actions and protect themselves from being exposed.

The Trouble with Harry was a departure from Hitchcock's usual suspenseful thrillers and was an attempt to show off his comedic side. The movie was not a commercial success but has since become a cult classic for Hitchcock fans.
