Cate McCall (played by Kate Beckinsale) was once a successful prosecutor and defense attorney, but her drinking problems led to a DUI accident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian. Her career and personal life quickly spiraled out of control, and she lost custody of her young daughter.
After getting sober and completing probation, Cate is determined to get her life back on track. She takes on the case of a woman named Lacey Stubbs (played by Anna Anissimova) who was convicted of murdering her own son. Cate believes Lacey is innocent and begins to investigate the case, despite opposition from her former colleagues and the fact that it could jeopardize her own recovery.
As Cate delves deeper into the case, she uncovers corruption and manipulation within the justice system. She also reconnects with her estranged daughter and seeks to prove to the court that she is a responsible parent.
