The Toxic Avenger is a cult classic horror-comedy film released in 1984 and directed by Michael Herz and Lloyd Kaufman. The film follows the story of Melvin Junko, a scrawny and nerdy janitor at the Tromaville Health Club who is constantly bullied by members of a local gang called The Cretins.
One day, while being chased by The Cretins, Melvin falls into a barrel of toxic waste and is transformed into a monstrous, super-strong creature with a disfigured face. With his new abilities, he sets out to clean up Tromaville from all evil, fighting against pollution, corruption, and crime.
Along the way, The Toxic Avenger encounters a sexy blind girl named Sarah who becomes his love interest and helps him in his quest. He also faces off against a corrupt mayor and an evil corporation responsible for polluting Tromaville with their toxic waste.
The Toxic Avenger quickly becomes a local hero as he defends innocent people and punishes the guilty, using brutal and gory methods that often involve ripping limbs off or melting his enemies' faces with his powerful touch. The film's over-the-top violence and campy humor became a hallmark of the '80s horror genre and spawned three sequels, a Saturday morning cartoon, and a musical adaptation.
