The Thirteenth Floor is a 1999 science fiction mystery film directed by Josef Rusnak. The movie follows the story of Hannon Fuller (played by Armin Mueller-Stahl), a wealthy entrepreneur who has just discovered a shocking secret about the world he lives in. He delves into Fuller's research and discovers that Fuller had built a virtual reality simulation of 1937 Los Angeles. In that simulation, he had created a sentient computer program, a scientist named David (played by Vincent D'Onofrio). Fuller had programmed the computer to help him study the nature of consciousness and to establish whether virtual reality could ever be indistinguishable from actual reality.
Douglas Hall uncovers a series of mysterious events that lead him to believe that he, too, may be living in a simulated reality program, and that the realities he knows may also be simulated.
