The Thief of Bagdad is a classic adventure film released in 1924 and directed by Raoul Walsh. The story follows the young and handsome Prince Ahmad (played by Douglas Fairbanks) who is tricked by the evil and treacherous Jaffar (played by Snitz Edwards) into wandering around the streets of Bagdad. Jaffar blinds Ahmad, takes over the kingdom, and throws him out of the palace.
Ahmad is saved by a young thief, Abu (played by Sabu), who is plucky and brave and takes him under his wing. After seeing that they both have similar goals in life, the two team up to take on Jaffar and regain Ahmad's rightful place as the ruler of Bagdad.
The journey is filled with numerous obstacles and challenges, such as battling a giant spider, defeating a giant genie, and overcoming Jaffar's magical powers. Along the way, Ahmad falls in love with Princess Julnar (played by Anna May Wong), who was once his betrothed and whom he still loves. Julnar is also struggling to free herself from Jaffar's clutches.
Through all these adventures, Ahmad and Abu prove themselves to be true and loyal friends. They ultimately overthrow Jaffar and help reclaim Bagdad for its rightful ruler, Prince Ahmad. The movie was praised for its lavish sets, special effects, and the athletic performances of the actors.
