David Cuevas, played by Bobby Soto, is a loyal family man who also works as a tax collector for one of the most ruthless gang leaders in Los Angeles. Along with his partner Creeper, played by Shia LaBeouf, they use their street smarts and intimidation tactics to collect money owed to their boss, a high-ranking gang member named Wizard.
Despite the risks, David takes pride in his work and enjoys the benefits it provides for his family. However, his peaceful existence is shattered when a rival gang leader, Conejo, played by Jose Conejo Martin, returns to Los Angeles. Conejo is known for his violent tendencies and his beef with David's boss goes back years.
As Conejo and his crew begin to encroach on Wizard's territory, David and Creeper are tasked with ramping up their collections to keep their boss happy and their families safe. But as the violence escalates and personal ties are strained, David must confront the moral implications of his actions and the consequences of living a life filled with crime and danger.
The Tax Collector is directed by David Ayer, who previously directed the acclaimed crime dramas Training Day and End of Watch. The film also stars Cinthya Carmona, George Lopez, and Lana Parrilla in supporting roles.
