In "The Tale of Zatoichi Continues," Zatoichi, a blind swordsman and masseur, returns to the village where he had killed his opponent Hirate a year ago. He is pursued by Hirate's brother and other retainers who seek revenge. Along the way, Zatoichi encounters his former rival in love, who turns out to be his own brother, Ryuzo.
Zatoichi and Ryuzo have a complicated relationship as they were separated at a young age and grew up on different paths. Ryuzo became a samurai and fell in love with a woman named Okiyo, who also happened to be the object of Zatoichi's affections. This leads to a conflict between the two brothers as they both pursue Okiyo's heart.
As Zatoichi and Ryuzo reunite, they are caught in the middle of a power struggle between two rival gangs. The brothers must fight together to protect Okiyo and to survive the violent clashes between the gangs.
