The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 is a 2009 action-thriller movie directed by Tony Scott and starring Denzel Washington and John Travolta.
The story begins with a group of armed men led by Ryder (Travolta) hijacking a subway train and taking all the passengers hostage. They demand a ransom of $10 million from the city authorities within one hour or they will start killing the hostages every minute.
Walter Garber (Washington) is the dispatcher who is in charge of the train and tries to negotiate with Ryder to release the hostages. The movie constantly shows the contrast between the calm, collected and responsible Garber, and the edgy, unpredictable and hostile Ryder.
As the hostage situation unfolds, Garber realizes that there are deeper motives behind the hijacking, and uncovers a plot involving corruption and betrayal within the city’s administration. The action-packed movie keeps the viewers on the edge of their seats as Garber and Ryder engage in a psychological cat and mouse game, each trying to outsmart the other.
The movie is a remake of the 1974 movie of the same name and was generally well-received by critics and audiences alike. It is known for its suspenseful plot, tense action scenes, and strong performances by Washington and Travolta.
