The Swordsman is a South Korean action-drama film released in 2020. The movie revolves around the lives of three master swordsman from different dynasties, who out of personal reasons, decide to retire from their profession. Tae-yeul, once a fearless swordsman who served the Joseon dynasty, loses one of his eyes during a battle and retires after his wife's death. However, he is haunted by the fact that he was unable to protect his daughter, who was taken captive by a group of slave traders. Driven by his paternal instincts and determination to rescue his daughter, he sets out on a perilous journey to find her.
On the other hand, Min Seung-ho, the Joseon dynasty's best swordsman, decides to lead a peaceful life in an attempt to forget his violent past and the atrocities he had committed. But his mundane life comes to a halt when he crosses paths with Tae-yeul and decides to help him in his quest to find his daughter.
Meanwhile, Gurutai, the best swordsman from the Qing dynasty, arrives in Joseon with an ambition to become the best in the land. He challenges the top swordsman of the dynasty and proves his worth in a fierce battle, leaving the audience awestruck. However, his thirst for power and glory lead him to cross paths with Tae-yeul and engage in a battle that leaves many dead.
The Swordsman is a beautifully shot movie that blends action, drama, and emotions with such finesse that it keeps the audience hooked till the very end.
