Unveiling the Degrading Truth: Inside the Cheerleading Circus.

Action,Comedy  United States of America

The Swinging Cheerleaders is a 1974 comedy film directed by exploitation film master Jack Hill. It follows the story of Jo (played by Jo Johnston), a journalist for her college newspaper who is determined to write an exposé on how cheerleading demeans women. In order to get an inside scoop, she infiltrates the cheerleading squad and becomes a member herself.

As Jo spends more time with the squad, she discovers that cheerleading has some benefits that she had not initially considered. She also discovers a level of male arrogance and chauvinism that she had not expected.

Jo soon realizes that she has bitten off more than she can chew as she gets into a complicated love triangle, becomes embroiled in a series of outrageous pranks and at the same time has to juggle her studies and her editorial work. The film features a soundtrack by composer Paul Glass and includes several memorable moments.

The Swinging Cheerleaders is a classic example of the exploitation genre of films that were popular in the 1970s. It uses a mixture of sex, violence, and humor to push social boundaries and spark controversy. The film was met with mixed reviews upon its release but has since become a cult classic.
