The Stuff is a 1985 horror comedy directed by Larry Cohen. The film begins when a mysterious white, yogurt-like substance begins to erupt from the ground, discovered by a couple of miners. Not knowing what it is, they taste it and find it to be delicious. Soon after, the substance is marketed as "The Stuff," and becomes a nationwide phenomenon, taking over the dessert market.
As The Stuff grows in popularity, it is revealed that the substance is not a natural product of the earth, but rather an alien organism that takes over people's minds and turns them into mindless zombies. Ex-FBI agent David Rutherford is hired by a rival dessert company to investigate The Stuff and find out its true nature, after reports of people behaving oddly after consuming the dessert begin to emerge.
Upon his investigation, David meets a young boy named Jason who has also become suspicious of The Stuff after seeing it move on its own. Together, they uncover a conspiracy involving the food industry and The Stuff's creators, who are working to brainwash the American public with their addictive, mind-altering dessert.
As the danger of The Stuff's mind-control becomes more apparent, David and Jason work to stop its spread and uncover the truth behind the dessert's origins. The film features an ensemble cast including Michael Moriarty, Andrea Marcovicci, Garrett Morris, Paul Sorvino, and Danny Aiello.
