The Strange One is a 1957 drama film based on the novel The End of Pity by John D. Weaver. The film follows the story of Jocko de Paris, a ruthless and manipulative cadet at a military school, who develops a twisted fascination with his fellow cadets and begins using his power to destroy their reputations and careers.
Jocko is a charming but dangerous young man who enjoys manipulating those around him to get what he wants. He sets his sights on the other cadets at the school and begins to use his power to turn them against each other. He blackmails them, spreads rumors, and causes chaos wherever he goes.
As Jocko's reign of terror escalates, the other cadets begin to turn on him. But Jocko is always one step ahead and manages to stay in control. However, his actions eventually catch up with him, and he is exposed for the manipulative bully he really is.
The film features a strong cast, including Ben Gazzara as Jocko, George Peppard as the cadet who finally stands up to him, and Pat Hingle as the school's commanding officer. The Strange One is a disturbing and thought-provoking look at the dark side of human nature and the corrupting influence of power.
