The Stationary Bike is a psychological thriller directed by David Fincher and stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Richard, a successful businessman who becomes obsessive about his health after being diagnosed with high cholesterol. Richard decides to ride a stationary bike in his apartment complex every day to get in shape.
As Richard begins his daily rides, he becomes increasingly fixated on his progress and starts to feel like he is being stalked. He becomes paranoid and begins to see signs of someone following him everywhere he goes. Richard becomes convinced that he is the victim of a conspiracy, and his obsession with finding out who is stalking him consumes his every thought.
His girlfriend, played by Dakota Johnson, and his best friend, played by Michael Shannon, try to convince Richard that his fears are unfounded, but he refuses to listen. The more Richard tries to confront his stalker, the more dangerous his situation becomes. The Stationary Bike is a tense and suspenseful film that explores the destructive power of obsession and the power of the mind to play tricks on us.
