As Jem becomes more closely involved with Owen and his teachings, she begins to realize that the church's teachings may not align with her own beliefs and values. When she discovers that Owen has been accused of sexual abuse by some of the church's members, Jem is forced to confront her deep-seated fears and make some difficult choices about loyalty and truth. As she grapples with these challenges, Jem must also navigate her growing attraction to Owen and the intense feelings of guilt and shame that accompany it. Ultimately, she must decide whether to stay true to her faith or risk everything to follow her heart. Throughout the movie, we see Jem struggle with her place in the world, her relationships with her family and friends, and her own sense of identity, all of which are shaped by her complex spirituality and evolving worldview.
