The Enigmatic Double Agent: Sonja's Conundrum

Thriller  Norway

The Spy is a historical drama film released in 2019 and directed by Jens Jonsson. It is based on the true story of Sonja Wigert, a famous Norwegian-Swedish actress who was recruited as a spy by the Swedish intelligence during World War II.

The film takes place primarily in Norway during the German occupation. Sonja (played by Ingrid Bolsø Berdal) is approached by Captain Nicolai Ramm (played by Alexander Scheer) of the Swedish intelligence, who persuades her to become a spy for them. She initially agrees to the scheme to help her family, as her father was detained by the Germans for being a communist.

However, Sonja's mission becomes complicated when she meets and falls for the German Reichskommissar of Norway, Josef Terboven (played by Edvin Endre). Terboven is a powerful and ruthless man, who sees Sonja as an opportunity to promote Nazi propaganda and maintain control over the people of Norway.

As Sonja becomes increasingly entangled with Terboven, she risks her own safety and the lives of those she loves. She is torn between loyalty to her country and her desire to protect those close to her. The film also explores the moral ambiguity of espionage and the impact of war on people's lives.

The Spy received positive reviews from critics, with many praising the performances of the cast and the film's portrayal of a little-known piece of history. The film was also nominated for several awards, including the Dragon Award for Best Nordic Film at the Göteborg Film Festival.
