May Munro (played by Sharon Stone) hires the hitman Ray Quick (played by Sylvester Stallone), a former CIA demolition expert, to exact revenge on a group of mobsters who killed her parents when she was a child. Quick is initially hesitant to take the job, but May's persistence and his own desire for revenge against one of the killers ultimately convince him.
As Quick begins to carry out his mission, he comes into contact with Ned Trent (played by James Woods), a former associate who has turned corrupt and now works for the very people Quick is trying to kill. Unbeknownst to Quick, Trent is also assigned to protect a potential target of Quick's, an informant named Tomas Leon (played by Eric Roberts).
As the two men cross paths, Trent becomes obsessed with stopping Quick and sets a trap for him. Quick soon realizes that he has been set up and that his own life is now in danger. He teams up with May to survive and finish the mission, leading to a thrilling finale involving explosives, gunfire, and a dramatic showdown between Quick and Trent.
The Specialist debuted in 1994 and was directed by Luis Llosa. The movie received mixed reviews but was a box office success thanks to the star power of its lead actors.
