Drama,Romance  United States of America

The Song of Songs is a 1933 romantic drama film directed by Rouben Mamoulian and starring Marlene Dietrich, Brian Aherne, and Lionell Atwill. The film is based on a novel by E. Houston and depicts the story of a young woman named Lily who moves to the city after her father's death to live with her strict aunt, who runs a bookstore.

Lily works at the bookstore during the day, but during her free time, she models for Richard, a talented but temperamental sculptor who becomes her lover. Lily falls deeply in love with Richard and feels that he is the only one who truly understands her innermost desires.

However, Lily's life becomes complicated when Baron von Merzbach, a wealthy and powerful art patron, takes an interest in her. At first, Lily is flattered by von Merzbach's attention, but she soon realizes that he has more nefarious intentions. Von Merzbach wants Lily to pose nude for him and becomes increasingly possessive and manipulative.

As Lily becomes caught between her love for Richard and von Merzbach's desires, her life and relationships become increasingly tumultuous. In the end, Lily must make a decision about what she truly wants and where her loyalties lie.

The Song of Songs was a controversial film for its time due to its sexual themes and portrayal of female desire. Despite the controversy, the film was a critical and commercial success and is widely regarded as one of Dietrich's finest performances.
