The Son of the Sheik is a 1926 silent film directed by George Fitzmaurice and starring Rudolph Valentino in his final film role. The film is a sequel to the 1921 film The Sheik, which introduced Valentino as a sex symbol and made him an overnight star.
The Son of the Sheik takes place 20 years after the events of the first film and focuses on Ahmed, the son of the sheik played by Valentino in both films. Ahmed is now a grown man and falls in love with Yasmin, a dancing girl played by Vilma Bánky. Despite their different backgrounds, the two lovers meet in secret and begin a romantic relationship.
However, Yasmin's father, a criminal known as the mountebank leader, captures Ahmed and holds him for ransom. Ahmed is tortured and beaten by the gang until Yasmin agrees to pay the ransom. Yasmin's father then double-crosses her by taking the money and refusing to release Ahmed.
Ahmed manages to escape his captivity and, with the help of his father's loyal followers, he sets out to rescue Yasmin and take revenge on her father for his betrayal. The film ends with a thrilling action-packed sequence in which Ahmed faces off against the mountebank gang and saves Yasmin from harm.
The Son of the Sheik was a major commercial success and helped cement Valentino's status as a Hollywood legend. It remains an important film in the development of the romantic adventure genre and is noted for its stylish direction, elaborate set pieces, and Valentino's charismatic performance.
