The Shunning is a made-for-television movie based on the novel by Beverly Lewis. It tells the story of Katie Lapp, a young Amish woman who has always felt like an outsider in her community. When a woman named Laura Mayfield-Bennett comes to Lancaster County searching for the daughter she gave up for adoption almost 20 years ago, Katie is shocked to discover that she is that daughter.
Laura takes Katie back to the world she left behind, where she discovers a life of luxury and privilege that she never imagined. But as she struggles to adapt to her new surroundings, Katie can't help but feel torn between her Amish heritage and the world she could have had.
