The Selfish Giant is a British drama film that follows the story of two young boys from a poor town in Northern England. Arbor, a hyperactive and impulsive boy, and Swifty, a gentle, slow-witted youth who loves horses. The two boys are best friends and struggle with school and home life. They live in a difficult economic situation and spend their days getting into trouble.

As tensions rise between Kitten and Arbor, the friendship between the two boys is put to the test, leading to a tragic climax.
